چکیده

Behavior of surfactant mixtures at solid-liquid interfaces was investigated using anionic-nonionic and catjonic-nonionic surfactants of different structures. The results show that adsorption of nonionic surfactants on alumina was enhanced significantly by the coadsorption of ionic surfactants. The adsorption beha vior of these binary surfactant mixtures was dependent upon the ratio of the two surfactants in the mixture. With an increase in the ionic surfactant content, the adsorption of nonionicsurfactant increased and the isothenn shifted to lower surfactant concentrations. Synergism and competition between the ionic and nonionic surfactants were observed in different concentration ranges at different mi~ing ratios.

Advances in adsorption of surfactants and their mixtures at solid/solution interfaces.

Surfactants and their mixtures can drastically change the interfacial properties and hence are used in many industrial processes such as dispersion/flocculation, flotation, emulsification, corrosion inhibition, cosmetics, drug delivery, chemical mechanical polishing, enhanced oil recovery, and nanolithography. A review of studies on adsorption of single surfactant as well as mixtures of various...

A review on experimental studies of surfactant adsorption at the hydrophilic solid-water interface.

The progresses of understanding of the surfactant adsorption at the hydrophilic solid-liquid interface from extensive experimental studies are reviewed here. In this respect the kinetic and equilibrium studies involves anionic, cationic, non-ionic and mixed surfactants at the solid surface from the solution. Kinetics and equilibrium adsorption of surfactants at the solid-liquid interface depend...

Foaming and adsorption behavior of oppositely charged surfactant mixtures

Although the application of liquid foams is widespread, too little is yet understood about stability control. One promising way to tune their properties is the application of oppositely charged surfactant mixtures. These catanionic surfactant mixtures show a strong synergism. This makes them eco-friendly since it allows reducing the required amount of surfactant. Due to the formation of surface...

Adsorption of mixtures of nonionic sugar-based surfactants with other surfactants at solid/liquid interfaces II. Adsorption of n-dodecyl-β-D-maltoside with a cationic surfactant and a nonionic ethoxylated surfactant on solids

Synergy and antagonism between sugar-based surfactants, a group of environmentally benign surfactants, and cationic surfactants and nonionic ethoxylated surfactants have been investigated in this study with solids which adsorbs only one or other when presented alone. Sugar-based n-dodecyl-β-D-maltoside (DM) does not adsorb on silica by itself. However, in mixtures with cationic dodecyltrimethyl...

Adsorption Behavior of Cationic and Nonionic Surfactant Mixtures at the Alumina-Water Interface.

The solution and interfacial behavior of surfactant mixtures was investigated using a cationic surfactant, tetradecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (TTAC), and a nonionic surfactant, pentadecylethoxylated nonyl phenol (NP-15), with alumina as the substrate. The cationic TTAC adsorbed at the alumina-water interface as a result of electrostatic attraction at pH approximately 10 whereas the nonionic...
